2025 SGM

East Coast Yacht Division members met online on 15 July 2025 to discuss and decide upon the future of the sailing club and transitioning to a Company Limited by Guarantee (CLG).

Thank you to all of our dedicated members who took part and to those of you who sent apologies for absence. Many of our club members were out sailing throughout July and that includes new club members, of which there are many and who seem to have really caught the sailing bug!

ECYD’s change of entity, from that of an unincorporated association to a CLG, was prompted by changes of policy within the Civil Service Sports Club - known to many of us as the Civil Service Sports Council (CSSC).

The Motion:

This motion means the current ECYD committee will, as soon as reasonably
practicable, register ECYD under the name agreed with Companies House, Civil
Service East Coast Yachting Ltd (CSECYL).

Thank you to those of you who thoughtfully read the explanatory note (EN) and
submitted written questions prior to the meeting.

The SGM was an excellent example of member participation as many important
questions were posed at the meeting and in the chat function online.

We hope that your queries were answered during the course of the evening but
please do contact the club if you need any further information about the change
of name and style.

This was an important change that required a vote and attendance of no fewer
than 20 (no) members in attendance. It was great to know that we exceeded this
number, with 24 (no) members in attendance and a further five members sending
in proxy votes.
The results of the vote were as follows:
  • 26 members in favour of the move to CLG – this included 4 (no) proxy votes.
  • None against the motion.
  • 3 members abstained.

The motion to form a CLG was carried.

We will operate under a more familiar name East Coast Yacht Club.

This means there becomes a limit of liability for all members and the club will
operate its own yacht, which will very shortly transfer to ECYC from CSSC. Please
watch for the change from ECYD to ECYC. Facebook pages and our website will be
changed to reflect this, with any final headings completed as soon as possible.

Meanwhile if you would like to join ECYC for European sailing then please contact
Amanda at our Crew Bureau using the following contact address:crewbureau@ecyd.org.uk
